My poodle is hearty and broad, precocious and happy. A bit of a forest creature in a suburban landscape.

He loves the snow – his first snow – and keeps sticking his face in, drawing a long sniff, and looking at me in – what – thanks? wonder? I swear he is laughing.

I tried to capture that moment.
