Not to be mean or anything but this is not a haiku poem. Haiku poems have three lines that add up to seventeen syllables. The first line with five syllables, the second line with seven syllables and the third line with five syllable.

I think it is less distracting now with fewer Similar Posts, yes. These trade-offs are never easy, to be sure. I may have forgotten to say how much I like the organization of the blog now, with just the one sidebar, very logically and aesthetically arranged.

Thanks for the suggestion, Dave. Because most posts on this blog are short (!), I can’t use the “click to continue . . .” prompt to hook readers to the single-post page.

If everyone stays on the index page, the disadvantages include fewer click-through stats indicating reader preferences, no clear “leave a comment” prompt with my WordPress theme, and no visible “Similar Posts” listing.

The Similar Posts listing helps readers find prior content, so I was hesitant to pull it off the index page.

I agree with your concern about distractions, however. The “Categories” listing in the sidebar may help facilitate site navigation. I’ll try placing the Similar Posts listing on the single-post page and see what happens to average pageviews.

UPDATE – I put it back on the index page, but cut the number of similar posts to 3 to reduce clutter. What do you think?

Hey, I know you welcome criticism. I just wanted to suggest that you might consider displaying Similar Posts on single-post pages only. Yesterday when I visited, and again this morning, I got a cluttered/distracted feeling looking at the index page. I mean, it’s no biggie, but your work is strong and I think it deserves a little more whitespace. Just one reader’s opinion, FWIW.
